[Presidential] [Washington, George] Printed Broadside for Boston's Columbian Museum

(Boston: D. Bowen, ca. 1801). Printed broadside on laid paper. Creasing from old folds, professionally repaired along same; washed; scattered loss in margins, mostly at top corners; scattered stains affecting text; some text lightly faded. One sheet, 22 1/2 x 18 in. (571 x 457 mm). Washed. Not in Evans or Shaw & Shoemaker

Rare promotional broadside advertising Daniel Bowen's Columbian Museum in Boston, featuring a monument erected to the memory of the late President George Washington, "in the Centre of the Museum, enclosed with an elegant Fence, 8 by 16 feet: The Tomb is in imitation of Marble: At one end stand a female Wax-Figure...drest (sic) in black, representing America (reclined) weeping. Over the Urn a large weeping Willow...and the figure of old Time, holding a Scythe and hour Glass..."

The monument is highlighted alongside the museum's other curiosities, including historical paintings, elegant wax figures, automaton musical clocks, natural history specimens, a sophisticated musical organ, and more.

While Evans and ESTC list other advertising broadsides from the Columbian Museum, this printing is unrecorded.
